A Pinata is typically a hollow decoration made of papier-mache which is shaped like an animal or (some other shape) that can be filled with sweets, or small toys and treats.

Contrary to popular belief the origins of the pinata are in fact of Chinese origin and not Mexican however they form a large party of Mexican culture and tradition.

The Pinata is thought to symbolism man struggle against evil and temptation. The pinata represent evil and the treats or sweets inside representing temptation. Once the pinata is smashed by the blindfolded person this is meant to represent ones faith and triumph over evil and temptation.
